Show REPUBLICAN DELEGATES MEET Number of State Committee and Convention I Con-vention Committees Named venton Ninetyeight of the IttJ Republican delegates from Salt Lake county to the State convention at Provo met at 1719 East First South street yesterday afternoon af-ternoon to select n chairman of the delegation members of the committees commit-tees on credentials permanent organization organi-zation iind order of business and platform zaLon form and resolutions Also the coun tys member oC the Republican State convention S Tho selections made were as follows Chairman of delegation George M Cannon U Secretary of delegation O Ny atrom 1 Member State committee 11 5 Wenger > if Member committee on permanent orj V ganlzatlon and ordpr of business I V Whllely f Member committee on plut oqn antI refcolutlohs C 13 Allen I Member committee on credentials JJ T Shurtllff Ohftlrnrnn and secretaries were also selected for the fivo city prellnct delegations dele-gations and for the county delegation as follows the nrstnamed being chairman I chair-man and second secretary J Ilrstj preajncl George Buckle l and V J Meeks Second pjcclnct G Van 1HolJO and Jesse yFox Third preclnctrAndrew Jensen and I w S Tanner Fourth product Glen Millor and W I R HutchInson Fifth precinct F E McGurrin and I George F Sprague County C n Roberts and C M I HendrIckson with B L Cutler as J teller I 1 was nearly 3 oclock when Chairman Chair-man Elclinor called the meeting to order I or-der and announced the purposes for 101 which i had been called Mr J2Ich 1 nor then said that he needed 51730 to defray certain expenses which had been incurred and that he desired to know where the amount was coming coming from before proceeding further Col lectors were then appointed and the amount was quickly raised The question of employing the IJtah Artillery band to accompany tho delegation dele-gation to Piovo came up next and It I was decided to engage the band The I boys will be paid 5C5 they to pay their own expenses The committee to raise I 1 this sum and take the band In tow j comprises George i r Cannon Grant II i f Smith and W G Van Home J Mr Eichnor next read communications c communica-tions from the Cache Box Elder and r Weber county delegations asking the Salt Lake delegation to accompany I them to Provo on the Short Line special spe-cial which they have engaged The Invitation In-vitation was accepted but it was un I derstood that the delegates should go over whichever line suited them best The special will be handsomely decorated decor-ated Nominations being declared In order I F C Loofbourow named George M Cannon for chairman of the delegation and Col George B Squires named C E Allen Allen attempted to withdraw with-draw in favor of Cannon but his friends would not permit I It Cannon I was selected by n vote of Cl to Al lens 21 Grant II Smith moved an adjournment adjourn-ment at this time until the morning of the convention but the motion was lost by an almost unanimous vote I For member of the Slate committee f E D R Thompson and D II Wcngor I were named Wenger being selected by a vote of 5C i to SI For member of the committee on permanent organization and order of business T W Whitely and Alma Katz were the candidates Whllely was named by a vote of 52 to 43 Katz voting for himself C 13 Allen was selected as member of the committee commitee on platform and reso lutions by acclamation the motion be ing made by George M Cannon As member of the committee on cre dentials Ralph Guthrie F C Loc bourow Jesse W Fox and H T Shurt I IIIT were the candidates ShurtllfC won out on tho second rising vote receiving 17 votes to Loofbourows 13 Guthrie having withdrawn before a vote had I been taken and Fox after the first vot This was followed by the naming of chairmen and secretaries of the five precinct delegations and the county delegation I was announced that the Short Line special would leave Salt Lake at 005 Tuesday morning antI it is quite probable prob-able that tho Artillery band and a ma jority of the Salt Lake delegates will go over that route |
