Show BOARD OF EDUCATION. Columbian Day Villi 11 Celebrated In the Schools A Site Purchased. Vice-President Nelson presided at tha meeting of the board of education last evening, even-ing, the other trustees preseut being Messrs. Duke, Baldwin, Newman, Dooly, Pike and Young. Trustee Young reported that he had obtained ob-tained an abstract to the site In Darlington place and the title was all straight. The sum of $3000 was appropriated to purchase the lot. S. G. Adams offered to rent the basement of tha church on Third South and Seventh Easj at a rental of $40 a mouth. Referred. A. F. Dinney offered to lease the board a schoolroom in his premises on Post street. Referred. FLty-four residents of City Park subdU division repre6entcd that there were 125 children ot school age in the additijn, and I they asked that a school -ba established there. The committee on school work recommended recom-mended the purchase of twelve sets of English Eng-lish and American classics, and a. so chem-icais chem-icais for use of the chemistry class, the total cost beins $95. Adopted. Trustee Baidwln reported that the rooms at the high school would be ready for occupancy occu-pancy ou Monday. The committee on furniture and supplies asked authority to purchase two carloads of furniture. Grauted. The committee on finance reported that the cost of handling the text bo'ok was $70.50. It was decided to change the lettering over the entrance at the Eleventh school to read, '"Bryant school." On moti on of Trustee Pike the committee on school work and Superintendent Miiis-paueh Miiis-paueh were authorized to prepare a suitable programme for the opening of the Eleventh and Sixth schools. Superintendent Millspaugh stated that Columbian day would be generally celebrated cele-brated by the schools, and ha recommended that the public schools of this city celebrate October 21, and that the corntniUee ou school work prepare a suitable programme.
