Hand-Clapping by the Vast Crowd Creets the Verdict. .Which Is Promptly Suppressed by Judge Anderson. Ogden, Utah, Sept. 23. Special. In the Whetstone murder case Judge Anderson finished his charge to tha jury at 15 minutes to 11 a. m. Then the jury retired and after an absence of one hour and thirty-flve minutes returned into court with a verdict of not guilty. The announcement was received re-ceived with clapping of hands, which was promptly suppressed by the court Mrs. Whetstone completely broke down, giving vent to her pent up feelings In a violent vio-lent outburst of crying. Rogers and Evans, defending attorneys, received hearty congratulations, con-gratulations, as did also Mr. Whetstone from his numerous friends. |
