Show THE MARSHALSHIP. It Is Conceded That Postmaster Benton Has the Pole. When the fight for Msrshal Parsons' shoes began, and it became known that both Postmaster Benton and Arthur Pratt were after it, the best posted ones were satisfied that if the appointment was delayed for any length of time, the postmaster would get the place because, besides his strong local backing, back-ing, this would give him an opportunity to get before the administration the indorsement indorse-ment of a large number of the leading men in the party. The situation at present shows that - this view was correct, and it is generally conceded now that Benton has the pole. A special from Washington in this morning's Tribune states that the postmaster post-master has been decided upon, and that a commission will issue in a few days. The dispatch also states that Postmaster General Wanamaker is prepared to recommend the appointment of Mr. Nash to succeed Mr. Benton as postmaster. Mr. Nash has been the assistant postmaster ever since- Mr. Benton took . charge of the office, and is ia every way qualified for the position. - - |
