In the council yesterday afternoon Mr. Evans introduced a liiil creating the office of gas inspector and to regulate the appliances appli-ances und machinery for conducting the same to the consumer. The bill provides for the appointment by the governor of a man skilled in the work as a supervisor of natural gas, who shall not be interested in its production or sale, the olflee to he held for four years, the governor to till a vacancy va-cancy when it occurred. Be shall collect statistics of the use of natural gas In manufactories, reduction of of ores, eta, and report them, together with such recommendations as might prevent waste or insure health and safety. He shall Impact gas pipes and machinery monthly, and all stoves, furnaces, mc!ters, etc., u-ing natural gas for fuel; all gas wells, reser-voirs, reser-voirs, etc., and condemn anything tnat is in whole or part dangerous and notify the. owners, own-ers, who shall immediately cease the use of such condemned part of their outfit under puin of damages. They may also be lined not less than 100 nor more than goOOO or imprisoned six months to live, years.
