Show JUDGK Mcllll l. i)N IOWA I'OMTICS. .Iiulgo J, VV". McDlIX of Iowa, who was recently appointed interstate rom-merco rom-merco couiniissioner, says this of Iowa polities: "(iovernor Hoies' election was not a political victory. It represented combined element of dissatistied republicans repub-licans and tho entire democratic party. I think Iowa will certainly cast its electoral elec-toral vote for IIakmson. This is made inoro certain in my opinion by the declaration dec-laration of Mr. Blaine that he is not a candidate. Tho alliance is not very strong in Iowa. Tho prohibitionists there generally vote tho republican ticket. The prohibition party proper is now a very unimportant factor in Iowa politics. I think were (iovernor BOIES given a place, either first or second sec-ond on tho national democratic ticket, local prido would induce a number of voters, republican in sentiment, to voto tho national democratic ticket, though not enough to swing out of the republican line. The legislature is in session, and from present Indications there will be no change in the liquor law, the republicans holding the house and the donioerats tao senate." |
