Show TROUBLES OF A MAINE PASTOR. Mr. Farnham, of Cutler, Gives np Hla Unrulr Flock In Dlspatr. Lewiston, Me , Jan. 17. Rev. R. A. pastor of the Methodist church at Cut- ler, has resigned because his pnrishon-ors pnrishon-ors swore at him, whittled and ate pea- nuts in meeting time, fired pistols and threw stones at his house, came to church any time before benediction, laughed aloud during the services, etc. He says rum is sold openly in the town and that no one tries to enforce the law. and adds: "People who sell and drink liquor receive as much respect aa ' Queen ietoria would have If she was living there. Before I was in the ministry min-istry I was lecturing on tho Bible, and 1 traveled in the states of Maine, New Hampshire, Massachusetts. Rhode Island, Pennsylvania and Ohio 1 and I pid not see as much drunkenness during dur-ing all that time as there has been in Cutler during the past year." He says that while pastor he boarded himself, swept the church, made the fires and rang the bell. |
