Show The Mound Builders Knew Some Things, A mound that stood near the center of the town of Chillicothe, O., waa fifteen feet high and sixty in diameter. In its demolition demoli-tion human bones were found in many . places, and at the aurfaoe of the earth, npon pieoes of bark, lay a single human skeleton oovered with a mat aud surrounded with Tartans personal adornment and other articles, ar-ticles, including a piece of copper in the shape of a cross. In a mound opened at Clruleville waa found a large inion mirror, three feet long, a plate of oxidized iron, and two skeletons covered with ashes and harooal and surrounded by burnt bricks. - $hese finds indicate that the mound builders build-ers were aoquainted with many arts, and in some of them were quite expert. They , certainly knew of the existence of copper Ou lake Superior. Pieces of eloth have ' been found well preserved with some of the ,. skeletons. |
