Tho cat darted for the stairway. As he passed Mr. King ho struck him with his hand.kuocking'l'honnis against tho wall. The blow aroused all the .im age instincts of the animal, and he made a furious onslaught upou Mr. King, fixing his teeth ia his right hand, lacerating it, severely, and using his claws to good effect on his night rohe. The noise of the struggle alarmed Mrs. King, and she bravely camo to tho res-cue, res-cue, driving the cat away from her husband, hus-band, but the savage niiimal attacked her fiercely, and tore her head. Kon some minutes tho battle raged furiously until Mrs. King managed to secure a linn hold upon the cat's throat, and clinked it until it was insensible. Then Mr. King took it by the tail and dashed its head against the wall until it wnsap-parently wnsap-parently dead. Mr. King threw it inlo the yard. After bandaging up their wounds he and his wifti re t red to tin-ish tin-ish out their night's rest. Karly yesterday yester-day morning Mr.King went to ilie yard to see how the cat looked by davlight, but it was gone. It had doubtless taken advantage of its proverbial remaining eight lives and crawled aw ay to recuperate. |
