Show OREGON A washington dispatch says F H osgood a railroad man and capitalist of seattle and J H crawford of grants pass have located ten copper claims in the diamond creek district in oregon and on the state line between del nort and currry counties they have put men to work developing ve the property and believe they will open up a paying mine glendale news edwin and clyde fletcher and al gutridge three energetic young men of granite grant county in eastern oregon arrived here monday with the expectation pec tation of trying their luck in the mines near gendale GIen dale this winter for the last couple of years they had been at work in the famous red boy mine of granite which for some reason has been shut down for the present grants pass mining journal W I 1 dowell was in this tuesday to receive payment on his quartz properties which he sold to J monroe layman for the comstock gold mining milling smelting smelling Sm elting company this new company is working a good force of men upon the property and opening up a nice vein of ore the property is located on mt baldy about five miles from grants pass baker city herald A chicago company represented by E F zinn yesterday e consummated op summa teda a deal for the purchase of the pine creek placers owned by the merchants gold mining company of baker city the consideration of the purchase was a substantial portion of which was spot cash the new owners announce that they will spend in equipping the property for hydraulic operations on a large scale sumpter miner lew walker superintendent of the midway and C H barnard who has charge of the new hoisting plant are in today from the property the hoist is in fine working order the flow of water which resulted from cutting a quartz ledge the other day has been reduced and is now being handled without difficulty the electric light plant has been practically completed and will be ready for operation tomorrow the shaft is now down over feet baker city herald james cusic fore man at t the he I 1 X L who arrived in baker city sunday reports a nother another rich strike on the north drift of the foot level an eighteen inch shoot carrying ore that will go as high as was broken into the ledge proper is about three feet in width where this ligh high grade stuff was encountered mr cusic was on his way to portland to receive medical attention for injuries which he sustained from an accident some time ago he had some of the ore with him it was simply plastered with free gold sumpter american superintendent lewis walker says that the alvy heavy flow of water encountered in the midway shaft came from a small vein which the shaft has passed through this vein was fout four feet wide and came in shortly after sinking was resumed with the new hoist it carried a very favorable looking grade of rock being live and well mineralized no heed was given to it the sinking crew being live and well mineralized no heed was given to it the sinking crew being steadily at work in the shaft it will be some time yet before the main lode is penetrated by the shaft as the work began well tu t the hanging wall side after the first strong burst of water the flow diminished and is handled very easily now |
