| Show MONTANA A basin dispatch says james wasson and phillip gruner lessees lessels of the independent mine in the cataract district report having struck a streak of high grade ore carrying gold silver and lead they say the pay streak is only about six inches wide but the ore assays essays in gold and eight ounces in silver the independent adjoins the famous mantle mine from which thousands of tons of high grade ore have been shipped wasson and gruner have hav e carried on extensive development work within the past six months and within a few days will ship a carload of ore D J sweeney lessee of the silversmith has just shipped another carload of ore to the butte amel mr sweeney has a lease and bond on this property and for the past year his shipments have averaged one carload of ore each month running as high as per ton the new smelter of the pittsburg montana copper company at butte will probably be ready to receive ore january 1 the company has employed d C M allen alien former superintendent perin of the colorado smelter the smelter will use the new process patented by mr allen alien and it has been deemed advisable to have him personally superintend the work the new plant is located east of the city on the line to columbia gardens feeling that it is possible that smoke from the smelter will make conditi conditions ons disagreeable at the famous resort application has been made to the city council by persons said to be representing the pittsburg montana company for a new car line to nine mile canyon where they plan to build a resort similar to columbia gardens the new smelter will be one of the most modern though not the largest in the world the butte officers of the company have moved into the building erected in the enclosure for office use this building is supplied with all modern modem conveniences including a cafe library reception lon rohm and billiard hall it is expected that total bullion shipments by the barnes king company of kendall for this month will he be about the shipments for the first half of the month amounted to this month will insure another substantial dividend considerable sid erable changes are being made in the mill machinery new screens are being put in which will materially facilitate the working of the ore the management has been experimenting with ore after it has left the crusher A shallow wooden tank was built outside the mill and in this the ore ere was submitted to a treatment that combined leaching with cyaniding cyan iding the tank was filled with ore to about one foot and the solution added the bottom of the tank is of slats and is covered with material that admits of percolation this mode of treatment has proved eminently satisfactory for ore that is mixed with clay it is a great improvement pro over the tank system the barnes king adjoins the kendall mine chiefly owned by finch campbell of spokane |
