Show eastern oregon mining news ty apons correspondence sumpter oregon nov 10 the golden wizard company has let a contract for the construction of a ton stamp mill at its property near the city and work it is stated will be started at once the original plan was to postpone the bu building iding of a mill until spring this was thought advisable by superintendent in order to obviate the difficulty of getting material and machinery over the snow The eastern office of the company however insisted on starting work this fall it is to be a twelve stamp mill rapid drop quadruple discharge with amalgamation concentration and aya of the roasted concentrates on the ground the capacity of each stamp will be eight to twelve tons in twenty four hours the stamps will weigh 1000 pounds each with drops to the minute five new standard concentrators will be used in connection tion the contract for lumber has been let and the present plan is to get the buildings under the roof before snow falls the machinery has been ordered from charles C moore co of san francisco otto herlocker manager of the highland mine was in from the property this week and states that the glasgow drift is now in fifty feet with full six feet of high grade milling ore between perfect walls in the face the ore he says is identical with that in the bannockburn drift above the present level gives feet additional depth the powder magazines and all outside work has been completed for the winter it is stated today on reliable authority that the magnolia mine has been sold to eugene pearson president of the mercantile trust co of philadelphia mr pearson has been here for the past two weeks look for a property for himself and business associate in the east the price and the terms on which the mine was taken over has not been given out but it is understood that the figure is close to and that the terms include a bond for two years it is further understood that a working fund of hasteen has been provided for operations to begin at an early date and that the mill will be remodeled in order to save more values the geizer hendryx company has ordered a new plant for the gold pan the present machinery was found to be inadequate and a new plant had to be ordered it was ordered for early delivery at the same time the company placed an order for a ten stamp mill which will be installed on the property next march the new hoist will have a depth capacity of 1000 feet the old one will be transferred to the tabor fraction operated by the same people the vein in the gold pan was cut the other da day y on the foot incline showing a width of eighteen feet in good values superintendent townsend of the call fornia left this week for southern oregon with the view to taking over a property there mr townsend stated before leaving that he expected tale roaster at the california to be completed within the next ten days and that t at the cyanide tanks ordered some time ago would be here in a few days the changes at the mill are well under way and mr townsend thinks that everything will be completed and ready for operations within two weeks it is understood through reliable parties that the E E is to start within a short time sinking to the 1000 foot level this seems probable in view of the fact that the company has recently placed a large order of dimension stuff for continuing the shaft the present shaft is located near the end line of the claims and is down about feet it is stated that the E E is now getting some very rich shipping ore and further that the mill will probably be started up soon it was understood to be the jhb original intention that the mill was not to be operated until spring but the extensive repair work seems to point to an earlier resumption good strength ind and high values ralph M piper of meredith N H one of the stockholders of the gold bug returned today with manager van vleet from the property this is mr pipers first visit to the district and he is very favorably impressed with the situation in general and the gold cold bug in particular he states that the property iio perty very much surpasses his ex pe cration on the new rastus he brings back the best report yet received stating that the phonolite formation is practically identical 4 to that of cripple creek lie he located four quartz claims on the southern bope lope of rastus and brought back with him a number of samples of quartz full of free gold clearly visible to the naked eye he characterizes the rastus stampede as a wild cowboy rush claims lie he says have been located at rand um and there is a scarcity of experienced raining mining men in the new district he thinks that the formation will show tell urides of gold with depth mayor mccolloch one of the directors ol of the auburn deep mining company and joe reed RS its superintendent were at baker city this week and closed the deal paying cash for the auburn placers which the company has been operating under bond for some time no amount was mentioned it is the purpose of the company to put a drill on the property in the spring and thoroughly thorough li prospect the ground auburn is located near sumpter and was the seat seal of early placer activity as far back as the M E bain manager of the overland property come in this week bringing samples which are ahead of anything anything
