Show PROMISING CONDITION IN BULLION MINING DISTRICT SPECIAL correspondence bullion springs tenabo postoffice Post office nl nevada ev january 22 nineteen twelve has started out with glittering promises for the future and bullion district is certainly in its ascendant from a mining standpoint and with the activity which has taken place throughout the year just past the indications are that the district surrounding bullion mountain will soon be hearing the drop of stamps from numerous mills the different camps will be alive with miners and the tent houses a thing of the past for those who have stood the hardships and many privations in the eager hunt for gold tha chaa precious metal which bring happiness to many and sorrow to those who cannot stand prosperity one of the many promising companies who are working as fine a of making a mine not the kind of a few years duration but buit one that from pres ent indications will have many years of steady output and with the present outlook will soon be in the producing class of an enormous output of gold and silver is the bullion mountain mining company the active officers of the company are james G knapp president and general manager and murray C brite secretary and treasurer and who also holds the position of superintendent its camp is an ideal one being surrounded by beautiful pine trees and three springs one being developed which would supply a town of 1000 inhabitants and with the three a 40 stamp mill could be operated every day in the year without any hindrance from a limited supply two frame houses are occupied by mr knapp and mr air brite with their families three tent houses by miners and barn for their stock comprises the buildings which now go to make up the camp or bullion springs small now from a village standpoint but in less than one year we predict a flourishing camp of from to people nearly three miles of roads have been built in order to connect with the indian creek road to beowawe a station on the southern and western pacific railroads arrangements are also being made to build a telephone line of two and a half hair miles in order to connect with the lin line e to beo dawe lander and tenabo which will put the camp in direct communication with the outside world bullion springs is located twenty six miles south of beowawe and about the same distance southwest south west of battle mountain geological conditions the geological horihen for several miles along the course of bullion mountain is comprised mostly of awl 05 AA N 4 7 J N r ao jr f IV 4 VI nar I 1 portal of tunnel of the bullion mountain mining oo 00 which is being run for the big dyke m e t and eruptive rocks of the following kind granite quartz porphyry rhyolite and mica schist A portion of this mountain range for about two miles along the southern part is covered w i t h sedimentary beds of about one shousan d feet in thickness the chronological no order of these beds is evidently 1 granite 2 cambrian quartzite te and slate 3 silurian limestone the granite and grano di alternate with rhyolite and quartz porphyry dikes at various intervals there are two veins systems the veins which have a strike in a northerly and southerly direction are parallel with the range of dikes and occur in contact fissure veins also true fissure veins the other system of veins has an easterly and westerly strike and are simple fissure veins th the e slick and well defined walls of the northerly and southerly veins traversing the property of the bullion mountain mining company have evidence of extensive plane faulting there are frequent porphyry intrusions through the ore the quartz p porphyries orph yr es cut through and fault the entire strata and hence the dikes are younger than the stratified and sedimentary rocks and consequently the contact veins are younger than the dikes bullion mountain development work the present development work consists of a tunnel which is being driven for the big porphyry dike which will give a depth of at least feet under the dike an assay of in gold was secured across the face of the south end of the dike which is over feet wide the dike is probably pro baby over feet long at the north end there is a great quartz formation and from one stringer an assay of 59 in gold was secured A shaft was started at this point but the vein shifted off to the left to a probable distance of thirty feet at which point it should come in contact with the granite it is possible that the fissure vein which the dike made in will be from thirty to over feet wide when it is struck by the tunnel for this reason the tunnel development was started in order to get depth and to be able to out the ore when it was struck the possibilities of this dike fissure making into a great big mine is simply enormous and only work and intelligent and scientific application to scientific mining will tell the story the tunnel is supplied with large mining dump car and ten pound rail and is certainly equipped to make a big showing in a few months time A forty foot development shaft was sunk on the east side of the dike in order to locate the foot wall which was found in place and well defined also to locate the trend of the dike in order to start development work with the tunnel the next important work which was commenced in october of last year is on an incline shaft which was started on the opposite side of the canyon from the big dike on what is now considered an east and west vein the shaft is now down eighty feet where a drift was started for the purpose of locating an ail ore shoot the vein in the shaft is from two to four feet wide with an average of two feet of gangue pw R vi ap opt r R A 1 AV til NOW P Q 44 w A 4 v q rk I 1 4 it 1 I 1 A faraway far away view of the tunnel of the bullion mountain mining co making on the foot wall this wall aswell is well defined very slick blue substance making which shows plenty of action an assay of 2534 in gold was secured near a quartz seam in the shaft the drift has now this formation it is evident that large body of ore will be encountered with depth new equipment for the mine the company is now figuring and getting prices on a complete hoisting plant and it is the intention to sink the shaft to a probable depth of feet and drifts started on the vein at each teet feet in order to block out the ore the hoisting plant will be in operation by march 1 1912 the accessibility to the property mill site water and fuel for mill purposes mild and pleasant climate are some of the many advantages we find the bullion mountain mining alining company the gray eagle this property is adjacent to bullion spring springs s and is only one half mile from the bullion Aloun mountain tain mining ning company property development work on this property has been carried on for nearly two years one shaft has reached a depth of feet with numerous drifts and cross cuts according to re reports ports a total of 80 was taken out on account of the large amount of water the shaft was discontinued and work commenced on a tunnel this tunnel has now reached a distance of 1350 feet and several cross veins were cut at different points which gave an assay as high as 80 to the ton in gold and silver when work was discontinued last summer the whole face of the tunnel was in ore which gave assay returns of in sil 5 VA milling character the vein in the drift runs from two to over rive feet wide and up to the present writing has run through an iron and quartz formation the last five feet has been in a solid mass of black quartz and manganese of superior quality and to one who is accustomed to ver and 1400 in gold no assay was made for lead but it is said it will carry about 35 15 per cent this property Is owned and controlled by james horton hoi ton of battle mountain and it is now reported a company is being formed to tahe it over and a large force put to work for further extensive tensia e development and removing the lar large lare e tonnage in sight for shipment the georgia bonanza one of the many other promising companies in the bullion district is the georgia nevada mining company which is busily engaged in opening up the georgia bonanza mine about three miles from bullion springs and about one mile from lander this company has recently installed an up to date steam hoisting plant and is engaged in sinking an incline shaft to a splendid body of ore some recent high assays essays have bave been obtained and a car of ore is being sacked for shipment to 10 salt lake the workings on this property consist of a tunnel feet long and an incline shaft feet with several short arif drifts ts the water level has been reached and from the looks of the ore the vein is a permanent one mr james constable E M formerly of the school of mines of the state of washington and who has spent many years in the close study of mining is acting at present in the dual capacity of engineer and superintendent A charter charier is being applied for under the laws of nevada for the lander mining investment company compan with a capital of shares of 1 per share it is understood this will constitute the nevada holdings of the georgiane georgia ne vada mining company as it is the intention of the company to operate both in nevada and california W D scott is president and general manager and E P aiken secretary and treasurer roth both gentlemen are on the job and give their entire time and attention to the development of the property the little gern gem during the boom days of 1906 tenabo had a population of over 1000 people and had it not been for the panic of 1907 and the earthquake at frisco frisco capital being interested in the many promising prospects no doubt exists but that this would have been a big mining camp today of the many high class properties being worked might b be e mentioned the little gem with assays essays in gold running away up in the thousands the panic struck the camp hard and all work was discontinued al Z i an lq f 1 2 steam hoisting plant being installed by the georgia nevada mining co on the georgia bonanza mine up to this year the exception of the annual assessment work but now this property has taken on new life five men are at work on a raise to the surface from the tunnel level and it is reported the raise is on an ore shoot of considerable size the indications are that the mine will be worked successfully many years to come when M J hansen who it is said is in the employ of the united states smelting smelling Sm elting refining company arrived at the mine with a force of five men who are doing considerable development work this property is located one and a half miles from bullion springs but on the east side of the mountain there are many other promising properties being worked and developed develop dd which include the golden eagle at mud springs the utah and clipper south of bullion springs gold at tenabo and the silverside at lander some splendid reports are being received from all of them and with the present activity throughout bullion district we expect to hear of some big strikes being made before the
