Show GOLD property of eastern mining company showing up satisfactorily mining expositor ely nev W A douglas manager of the eastern mining company which recently took over claims in the Coco mongo mining district eight miles south of the town of cherry creek came down from there last week to attend to business matters t here requiring t his attention mr douglas brought down with him a beautiful four pound specimen of rock which was taken out of the bottom of an 82 foot shaft which the company is now engaged in sinking with a force of four men the specimen to use the language of the prospector is literally lousy with free gold showing free flee gold to the naked eye permeated through the rock in every exposure no assays essays have yet been made of the rock which was taken out of an entirely new strike in the vein but from appearances there is no doubt but that it will run well up into the hundreds if not a thousand dol lors hirs per ton the specimen is not only interesting te on account of its richness but also on account of the character of the gold revealed in an exceptionally rare state embedded in the close massive quartz gold appears in the form of rhomb cubes while in the cavities of the rock the gold old occurs in pyramidal the development of the property is progressing with much more flattering results than were expected by the new owners the vein upon which the shaft is being sunk at the present depth of 82 feet has widened from a few inches on the fhe surface to nearly three feet thick the shoot from which the rich specimen was taken lies near the hanging 1 wall side and is over nine inches thick being composed entirely of ore of the same character as the specimen brought down by mr douglas over twenty sacks of this ore has been taken out in the past few days since the discovery was made and it is anticipated that at least a carload of this same rich ore will be taken out and shipped in a very short time concerning the driving t of the 1000 foot tunnel which is to intersect the eastern shaft at a depth of approximately feet mr douglas states that on account of delay in the arrival of timber and other necessary supplies operations here have been temporarily suspended I 1 however Io wever the sinking of the shaft in the eastern claim where the new strike of rich ore was made and the performance of other surface work will bo be pushed with al possible speed pending the arrival of tunnel equipment |
