Show WILL ERECT MARBLE PLANT reaper richfield utah J M bickel and clare pancoast two of the officers of the utah keenes cement company returned recently from san francisco and other coast points where they had been promoting the interests of their company in the proposition of the manufacture of gypsum marble the gentlemen had shipped ten tons of gypsum rock to the coast for demonstration purposes and they spent much of their time in demonstrating that a superior grade of marble can be manufactured from gypsum the process of shaping shaping the gypsum into any desired form the immersion in the chemical bath and the changing of the soft gypsum into hard marble was shown and the colors to be had in this new decorative substance was a source of f wonder and interest to the men who handle interior decorative materials so enthused did the coast marble men become that bickel and pancoast were urged to begin the erection of a plant for the production of their gypsum marble and money for this purpose could have been secured mr bickel feels that sevier county should have the first plant for the conversion of gypsum into marble and he refused the financial aid offered for a san francisco plant money on the coast is tight and there is little doing in big building projects the outlook for an easement in the financial situation is growing brighter and mr bickel expects that these large projects which are now hanging for lack of funds will begin to move in about thirty days this will bring about a reaction along all lines and times will be better the keenes cement company expects expect sto to begin the erection of the second and largest plant for the marble industry at sigurd early in september while mr bickel could have secured all the financial aid necessary for the erection of a plant on the coast he thought sevier county was entitled to the first plant for the production of marble by the new groces the present keenes cement plant while of some magnitude will be small compared to the one where marble will be manufactured and upon which work is to commence at an early date |
