Our InfleW fielded every hird hit ball ana only registered one error the entire game. It was a treat to sit In the dug-out and watch ho boys hold a lead throughout tin Karne' The RutluMcGill team measur-ed up well to any American Lo-glo-team we played all sea-son. They were larger, fast and good hitters. Their infield, how-ever, played ragged ball. Our boys were never as royal-ly treated as they were by the people of Ruth. It seemed like they could'nt do enough for us! to make our visit a pleasant one It was one continual iound of entertainment, dining, dances, night clubs, swimming, etc. Every boy on the team hated to leave Ruth and each expressed the dealre to stay of days more. It was th, greatc--t show I have ever watched a community put on. The jKople of Ruth and men in charge of the dormitories of the Nevada Consolidated Cop-p,- r company and the cafeteria force complimented our boys on their fine conduct and be-havior and I wish to assure this community that not one of our lxys got out of line and that each on,- - is a credit to their home and to the Com-munity that has made it pos-sible to take advnnage of such opportunities. PLAYGROUND NOTES By Bailey Santbite van, Director The llingliam Junior Ameri-can Legion, team sponsored by Bingham Post No. 80 return-ed Monday evening from Ruth, Nevada, after engaging a com-bined Ruth-McGI- U team of Am. erlcan Legion pouts In a two-ga-series. Both games were won by Bingham, the first 18-1- 5 and the hccoimI 0-- 5. Both games wre well-atten- d. m1, some 1,000 people being present each game. The White Pine high school band of Ely played throughout the games. Our boys continued their hard hitting which overcame a seven run lead the Ruth-McO- lll boys gained the first inning. Lopez was taken out and Stanley Long took a new lease on life, pitch-ing a superb game. He was op-posed by Haigen, a 180 pound six-fo- ot boy with a good fast ball and a wonderful change of pace. Our left handed hitters hit too hard. In spite of the large score the game was inter, esting and not a single specta-tor left their seats until the last man was out. The second game was well played. Bingham olaylnr the best defensive game they had played all year, hit REGISTER AUGUST 27 Utah made a big step forward when the direct primary law was passed. Although there were some mistakes made by legislators in framing the bill, which will no doubt be corrected, the direct primary is big advance over the old convention method of selecting candidates. Every voter should check his registration on the last registration date, August 27, before the primary election on September 13. Sponsors of the law and those who support-ed its passage are anxious that voters show their interest in and appreciation of the privilege this system allows vo-ters in selecting candidates for office, by voting in the pri-mary and the run-of- f election. Machine politicians who have always opposed the di-rect primary will interpret any disinterest shown in the primary as encouragement to attack this progressive and fair voting plan when the expected and desired changes are proposed at the next meeting of the legislature. |
