Show UTAH WELL SATISFIED Henry S Pritchett president of th Carnegie Foundation has returned to Now York from a tour of the he western universities and colleges to investigate whether they are entitled to participate In the benefits of the great fund which Mr Carnegie has set aside Mr Pritchett Pritchett Pritchett chett visited Salt SnIt Lake during his ab senca sene and looked over tha the University of Utah Now that Mr Pritchett has returned to New York he gives out an interview to the effect that he has found only two which comes up to the standard that the foundation requires to participate in ln the benefits These two institutions of learning are the Uni University University University of ot California and the University of Colorado Mr Pritchett discreetly told the New York reporter that he would not name those which he had decided should not participate Inas mae Inasmuch Inasmuch much as it Is common knowledge just what institutions he visited and as he has named the fortunate ones President Pritchetts discretion in this instance instances s more apparent than real It is ls not known whether the University University sity sHy of at Utah is excluded until the board of trustees of at the Carnegie Foundation has hns its meeting and announces Its de decision decision After all it is the board of trustees and not Mr Pritchett who will d upon the western schools that shall participate in the Carnegie Foun Foundation Foundation Foundation dation benefits But If it shall be de decided decIded decided that the University of at Utah is not entitled to those benefits Utah will not mourn Here in Utah we wa know some something somethInG something thing ourselves of the excellencies of the University of Utah The splendid education it is ls giving the youth of the tha state the splendid inspiration it Is to the entire educational system of this west western western ern em country is known here if it is not quite clear to Mr Pritchett and it is barely possible that there are many things the tha investigating educator could not learn in the tha short time he ho spent in Salt Satt Lake The people of Utah will not be die dis disposed posed to accept as final the tha verdict of an eastern educator upon the University of at Utah There Thera are many conditions attached to the tha Carnegie Foundation Excellence of a particular institution as a school does not enter Into the final determination Whatever the verdict may be the grade of work York done at the University of Utah does not enter into the question And Utah will be able to take care of If f her hel own in ln the future as aa she has in the h past |
