Show HOW CIRLS "STRIKE OUT." Women are not graceful when clad in other old women's growns and learning to swim. They lack repose and dignity when they try to "strike out" in the water or on a table. Their action ia too abrupt aud spasmodic. spas-modic. They kick out with their arms. Then they kick straight behind be-hind like ft cow. That wo 1't impel the body ahead at all. It ouly remains re-mains in statu quo, or else propels the back awkwardly up out of tbe water and the haad under it. Tbia makes a girl clad in an old woman's gown look very ridiculous. Then they are jealous of the only man in the party dressed in one pair of the old woman's old man's pantaloons, who can go forth in deep water and swim. They are forever wanting bim to come back and show them "how to kick." They think that if they could only leurtialo kick properly in the water, they'd swim right away. They will not realize that girls must teach their own limbs to do their own kicking in the water or out. It is pleasant for a man who is ft poor dancer but a good swimmer to attend to a lot ot girls- in the water who are good dancers but not good swinnners. It's pleasant to have the tables turned once in a while, and be able to contemplate con-template others' awkwardness. I never could dance well. They Bay its because I don't put my mind in my lugs. But I can swim. I can get uiy mind in my legs in the water. I suppose it floats down there. But those girls to Bee them kick to no purpose, except to drive their headB under.' Graphic. |
