Th case of Felice Largomarzino, alluded to in our dispatches, is that of an American citiz m of Italian birth, who left San Francisco nearly two yeirs ago to visit Italy, and who was drafted into the Italian army. Secretary Evarts has addressed the Uuited States minister in regard to tho subject. There are now in San Francisco a couple of French Bailors, both minus a leg, who have, by singine on the streets tho Marseillaise and other French airs, gained sufficient funds to kenp them nicely and to pay their way from Washington, D. C, to San Francisco, making tho journey in about six months. These men recently appeared upon the streets of Salt Lake. The delusive prospect of finding in California wealth without work has overflowed its metropolis with criminal crimi-nal classes having no special name. The remnants of the desperadoes ol the mining territories are also here in great numbers. Two men, (). P. Calloway and T. H. Klythe, are the owners of nearly 80,000 acres of land taken under the Sargent desert laud grab act aud as swamp and overflowed land, all located in the San Diego laud district, and much of it in tho Colorado bottom. At Lob Angeles Newton Footo and , Martin Welsh, convicted of maDufac-1 turing and having in their possession counterfeit coin, have been sentenced to terms in the state prisOD, the former to eight and the latter to four yeara. NEVADA, During the year ending June 30, 1377, forty-two cases in bankruptcy were adjudicated upon in the district of Nevada. Of this number thirty were voluntary, with aggregate asiets of $19,800, aud liabilities $392,339.93; twelve involuntary, with assets $25,-813.38, $25,-813.38, and liabilities $15S,291.29. |
