Show A new Atlantic cable company is projected in consequence of the consolidation con-solidation of the Anglo-American and the Direct cable companies. Should the consolidation carry out its threat to remove the western end ol the Direot cable from the United Stated shore lo New Foundland, the way would be open for the success of a new cable, which could now be laid to this continent for less than $5,000, 000, and would pay a 10 per oent dividend easily at fifty cents a word; but at fifty centa a word the Anglo company, with its capital Bwollon lo $45,000,000, could not pay a dividend at all. |
