Show Progress is reported at the Greenwich Green-wich observatory in reducing the observations made on the last transit of Venus. Two of the moat recent calculations required the use of 3,000,-000 3,000,-000 figures. The French attempts at obtaining new figures for the euu's i distance by the study of the photo graphB taken during the transit have been reported as turning out badly. It is even doubted whether the photographs can be used at all tor this calculation. Better results are ; hoped for at Washington from the ' photographs taken by the American expeditions; but the work proceeds very slowly, because the nppropria-lians nppropria-lians by congress were much smaller than had been expected. |
