Show The Colorado River Trade. The Southern PaciBc .Railroad eompany has purchased the river steamers, barges and real estate in Yuma city of the Colorado N ligation liga-tion company. Tbia company was incorporated in 1869, and the capital iuveoted wvj from $250,000 to $300, 000. On the Colorado- it has four Bteamers of light draft, ranging from 100 to 400 tons, which have beeu employed em-ployed in the river traffic, and has also purchased an ocean going steamer, steam-er, the Xetcbem, which makes regular iripa to the gulf from that city. Recently it chartend the Idaho io ply on the same route. In Yuma city it ewns a considerable area ol real estate, on which offices and warehouses have been built, and a good wharf piojecla into the river. The transfer does not include the ocean steamers, and the traffio by these, or the Ncwbem alone, will be continued by the company. The Southern Pacific company intends to develop the river trade to a much greater extent than has heretofore been done, and will put on additional steamers. These will make trips at short intervals, and communicate at ail points of importance. |
