Show Greece Will lie Neutral If She Has to tit hi lor It. Athens, 29. Five or six days ago au Austrian Lloyd steamer landed at Corfu, for the Turkish feovernment, 193 cases of arms which it intended lo renhip for Prevosa in Albania, but the Russian consul protested to the Greek government againt the uso of neutral territory as a dep it fur arniB of belligerents. Tho - government thereupon ordered the detention of arms aud thw captain of tiie Austrian ship in which they had already been re-embarked, on hearing the protest, unloaded them into boats where they now remain. The Turks intimated that they were about lo send a man-of-war to letch the arms, and the Greeks replied that they would send what force was at their disposal to prevent it. The Turkish government protested, but, notwithstanding, the Greeks have ordered the ironclads George and Olgato leave immediately aud they are now ready. The Gieek government has informed the powers of this, calling upon them for support in preserving neutrality. They will allow the arms to be taken to Trieste by a neulral ship. Athens, 29. Austria appioves tuo course taken by tho Greek government govern-ment in detaining Turkish arms at Corfu. It is proposed that an Austrian steamer be allowed to take them to a neutral part. This Greece will agree to, provided the Austrian consul gives a written guarantee as to their destination. |
