The department of agriculture reports that oats are in a superior condition in New England, in most of the southern atateo, in those of tlie Missouri valley and Oregon, and in a fair to high condition in all the remainder except California. The condition is tha highest west ol the Mississippi. There is an increase of clover, especially especi-ally in the south, and very marked in Texas. SpriDg pasture has been abundant in northern New England, in West Virginia and Texas, and in Oregon. It has been injurod in southern New England aud in the middle states, prior to the recent rains, by dry weather. The drought has reduced its condition in portions of the south. Injury from this cause has been great in California. Pasturage Pastur-age has been generally good in the territories. An investigation into the losses of sheep during the past year shows that millions of Blieep and lambs have been destroyed by tho dogs and wolves, and by various diseases, involving in-volving an aggregate money value of eight million dollars. The average percentage of loss is nearly eight. The proportion is highest respectively in North Carolina, Florida and Louisiana, Louisi-ana, and ranges from 17 per cent, in the former state to 37-10 in Nebraska.
