Show In tbe annual statement of the financial condition of Italy for 1876, it appears that sixty-nine millions of lire were ihveatediin lottery tickets in the government cash boxes. Of course but a small proportion of this money went back to the successful gamblers. Since 1803 the etato baa received 881 millions from this source and returned re-turned in prizes five hundred and aix teen millions and a half, pocketing profit in fourteen years of three hundred hun-dred and sixty-five milliona. |
