Show I TUB KG COMMISSION Going Buck oa Ouray, the j "White Mau'ft Friend Denver, 9. A special to the Den-1 ver Tribune, from Los Pinos, dated Ihe 7tb inst,, says: To day's develop- ments prove that the ousting ol his I knife upon the tlaod by Calorow ex- j p redaed his vote for war; but the fact ; of tho other Indiana retained their ; knives overpowed his vote. It was j noticed that, as soon ftB it, was paroeived lhat no other Indians wished to follow the example ot Calorow, two Utcs arose from their j seats in the counoil room aud went I out and commenoed talking to tbe Indiana outside, wbo immediately ! mounted t eir horses and rode away, j Tney had evideully been waiting for the signal whioh would call them to j arms and at no time were any of I them distant a hundred feet from the ! oouncil room. Every Ute at the ageuoy oarrisd with him more arms: than any two soldiers of the regular array could muster, a Winchester nfie and two revolvers being about the allowance to each man. Yesterday brought out also the fact that Ouray's rewpeot for tbe President is due to hiB thinking that tho gret father is elected by and rules over the whole world. In one of his speeches he made that assertion, asser-tion, aud Mr. Townsend, the interpreter, inter-preter, not exactly understanding what be meant by it, repeated the question; his answer showing the fact plainly that he considered thai : Washington waB tbe centro of the universe and President Hayes the ruler of all nations. He has not yet been undeceived, and will not be by this commission, aa it is now plain that bis friendship lor the whites ie assumed for policy, and he thinks, if neoessary, the armies ol the world could be called to crush hii tribe. Washington, 9. The following telegram was sent, to day: Washington, 9. To General Hatch, Ute Commissioner, L03 Finos Agency: Receive the surrender of the Indiana designated by your oommis-sion, oommis-sion, with the understanding that they will be guaranteed & fair trial by a military commission outside of Colorado and New Mexico. Inform Ouray lhat he will be received here with four or five U ncompaghagne and three Southern Utes, and three White River Utes. Take care that good and influential men be selected, especially trom the White River Utes. It will probably be desirable to have Jack here. Take possession of the prisoners with a military guard and convey them in the first place to Fort Leavenworth. (Signed.) O. Schuez, Secretary. |
