Show Arrival of the Fourteenth Infantry. Infan-try. Gen. John E. Smith, tho recently appointed commandant of Camp Douglas, arrived in the city last evening even-ing with a portion of his regiment the Fourteenth. The troops traveled hy Epecial train, consisting of eight passenger coaches and two baggage cars. General Smith was met at the depot by General Morrow and the officers of Camp Douglas, and a number num-ber of private citizens former acquaintances ac-quaintances all of whom warmly greeted him and gave him a hearty welcome. The troops marched up South Temple street, preceded by the regimental band, te the post. Gen. Smith and wife, and a number of the officers of the Fourteenth, and their ladies, went to the. Walker House, whero they will remain till the Thirteenth Thir-teenth regiment leares for their new stations on tho plains, which will probably be on Sunday morning. |
