Show THE TENNESSEE RIOTRES-PROCLAMATIONS RIOTRES-PROCLAMATIONS OF GOVERNOR GOV-ERNOR BROWN. Nashville, Txnn., 27. Governor Brown sends the following telegram to the Shcrifl of Gibson County a' 1-o'clock 1-o'clock last night: "Nashville, Aug. 2i. I have no direct information of your trouHw, but it is reported here on authority o'. press dispatches that riots arc imminent immi-nent in yo'.ir county. If this be true it is your dty to summon a posse ol your best citizens and preserve peace by dispersing rioters and prcvcnlinp eollissions, but in such a manner and by such mean?, it possible, as to avoid bloodshi".;. Keep me iuI vised of the stale of things and I will render you all necessary assistance to uphold the law and protect society. I have oflered a reward of $500 each for the jail breakers and invoke your aid and that of all good citizens to bring all the law breakers to punishment. Jso. C. Brown, Governor." Tho Governor has also issued proclamation offering $500 reward each for the two murderers of Julia Hayden, a colored Bchool teacher of Trousdale County. Nothing later from Gibson County or vicinity. |
