Show Another Robbery. This city is fast acquiring an unenviable unen-viable name on account of its being the rendezvous of a gang of thieves and burglars. Every few nights a house is robbed, and it has become unsafe to leave anything movable lying around loose; If the thieves continue to flock here in the next few weeks in the same ratio as they have in the past few it will be well to place red hot stoves under lock and key. The latest burglary and robbery re ported occurred on Wednesday evening even-ing in the First Ward. Mr. E. J. Hirth, who lives alone in a house on the comer of Seventh South and Seventh East streets hnd company on that evening, and after his friends left, about half past nine o'clock, Mr. H. locked the front door and sitting down by a table eoon fell asleep. He slept about an hour, and on waking discovered that the wiudows had been tampered with ; still he thought nothing wrong had occurred and immediately went to bed. On arising aris-ing yesterday morning he discovered that his pocket book, containing a considerable sum of money and valuable papers had been taken from his pantaloons' pocket. The unfortunate unfor-tunate gentleman has no idea who robbed him. He cautions the public, through the Herald this morning not to purchase a certain promissory note for $1,000, that being one of the articles stolen, |
