On the alarm of fire! which waB raised by some thoughtless person, a lady, having in her arms a tender infant, becoming excited, leaped leap-ed headlong over the aide railing of the "car iu which she was riding; as the train was going on an up grade , and at a very siow rate, fortunately, the lady and child came to the ground scatheless and unharmed. Too much praise cannot be bestowed upon that brave young man, the brakeman, who, having observed the lady in her ltap, fearlessly jumped ofTthe train, catching the falling lady with one hand while with tho other ho signalled sig-nalled the engineer to stop the train. The lady and child wero taken on board safe and sound. and soon the excitement attending the cirouni-stance cirouni-stance had subsided and the train resumed re-sumed its way. We advise that excitable woman to "stick to the ship." She might tare worse should she jump overboard again. |
