On tho property of n man living near Port Gibson, Miss., tho existence of a great number num-ber of "Mocks of cut stones has been known for an indefinite time, and the people- in the neighborhood have used them lor props for their houses. An explorer from l'ort Cib.ion, went out there tiio other day and had u specimen speci-men slouo brought to town. It m about three feet long by twenty inch-1-ttnqimro, resembling in shape a bar of soap. It is probably ' a native miiidwtono. This ruck was taken from beneath thu rooU of a largo pine truo. It formed a portion of a wall about twniity feet broad on tho top, which wan tract d for a distance of about 250 yards. It in supposed that this has been a cily wall, or probably u portion ol a fort, temple, or other building of antiquity. |
