Show Theatre. Tiie opening night ol the week's performances at the theatre was the occasion last evening of the house being well-li!lcd; and at tho conclusion conclu-sion the large audience retired satin-tied satin-tied with the entertainment. The first piece was the serio-comic drama "Husband to Onler' in which Phi!. Margetts made a most successful Phillipeau. He was the centre of the play. Lindsay niade tho most of hia part, but it was a character which gave no scope to the gentleman's gentle-man's ability. Charles Vivian came- next with a dozen or so of his sketches and character char-acter impersonations, each of which was vociferously applauded, and at their conclusion tne gentleman was called before the curtain. Mr. Vivian Viv-ian is of the Lingard type, but in his specialties is far ahead of the latter. His "Ten Thousand Miles Away" is a piece of character acting that is not excelled by anyone; when witnessing it one is led to wonder if the gentleman gentle-man isn't the veritable London prig who has been transported. Manager Harris created a good deal of mirth as "Solon Shingle," the cute Yankee. This evening "Ben Bolt" is the opening drama, in which Lindsay, Harris, Miss Cogswell and MUs Jones appear. Mr. Vivian again appears, and an entire chango of programme i3 announced. The laughter-provoking fareo " Domestic Ditlicultiea" concludes the entertainment. entertain-ment. Margetts plays Delph, which is a guarantee for fun. |
