Stocks opened weak this morning on tbe street and in tbe board there was an average decline of about 10 per cent, in standard stocks, and from 10 to 25 per cent, in small stocks. General LaGrange, superintendent o( the mint, has tendered his resignation resig-nation owing to the connection of bis name with the appointment of Pin-ney, Pin-ney, the defaulting navy paymaster's clerk. The court of inquiry at Mare island, 1 in tbe Pin ney case, is proceeding with I closed doors. Paymaster Spaulding 1 promises revelations that will make a fluttering among the politicians as regards the influence which retained Pinney in hiB position, if the inquiry is pressed too hard upon him. The board of trustees of tho Bank ! of California organized this morning. ! The officers elected are, president, D. O. Mills; vice-president, Wm. Alvord; cashier, Thos. Brown; secretary, S. Franklin; assistant secretary, W. W. Wiggins; advisory committee, Thoa. Bellf Wm. Sharon and James li. Keene. |
