Show Theatre. A good house greeted Mr. John Mc-Cullough Mc-Cullough hist night on bis appearance in tlte title role of "Jack Cade." Hii impersonation was artistic and vigorous, vigor-ous, embodying the beau-ideal of a patriotic, determined leader of the masses against usurpation and aristo-, cratic wror.ga. Those who saw Mr. ; McCulluugh last night did not wonder at the oncomiums so lavishly bestow-; ed upon the eminent tragedian by the leading eastern press. Tho mipport was excellent, Miss Walters playing Mariamne with much discrimination, judgment and ability; while all the characters were carefully rendered. Mr. John S. Lindsay, who played Lord Say, received a warm greeting on bis appearance. At the close of the second and last acts Mr. McCul-lough McCul-lough was called before the curtain and bowed his acknowledgements. Tiiis evening Shakespeare's beautiful beauti-ful love story of 'Romeo and Juliet" will be presented, Mr. McCul lough appearing as the impetuous lover Romeo, and Miss Annie Graham, late leading lady at the California theatre, San Francisco, as the gentle Julia. Miss Graham is a lady ot fine presence, a good voice, and a sympathetic sympa-thetic manner that wins any audience. Mr. Hawtclle-plays Mercutio, and the cast is good throughout. - ! |
