Show Theatre. "Qnly a Jew" was performed per-formed last night to a large audicno?, and wo heard but ono opinion expressed ex-pressed of the play and tho playing. The picco has considerable dramatio merit, and the plot is just such a ono as will touch the pympathica of an au-diencp, au-diencp, for its denouement shows tho Jew triumphant over scheming scoundrels scound-rels who endeavor to rob an orphan, and one doubly an orphan. Mr. Raymond's Ray-mond's JNathan is a splendid characterization, charac-terization, and his cmbodicmcnt of it shows tho great abilities which he possesses. Miss Waltors plays Natalie Nata-lie Daw, tho heircFS whoso fortuno tho Jew saves; while- Miss Edith Claw-son Claw-son is littlg Prink, tho stray waif, doubly orphaned; and (ho scones between be-tween her and Nathan aro exceedingly touching aud lovcablo. As old Daw, tho father of Natalie and grandfather of Prink, Mr. Forstcr deserves com mendation. Tbia eontlom3n is not a brilliant not or, but he is always reliable. re-liable. Messrs. Margctts ocd Graham had tho oouiic business in hand, as a couple of low comedy thieves, and did U justice; Mr. Thorno bad not much to do, but did it well; while Mrs. Bird, as "Maam Totter," was very effective and played with muoh dUoriuii nation, i "Qnly a Jew" will be repeated to-I to-I night for the last time; followed by I "Hit him, he has no Friends." |
