Show OCR GOVBOR LOST. Startling aew- reach1! ni from Nevada, Ne-vada, It is n por'.ed that ojt worthy governor, George Jj., has suddenly disappeared. As the coach on which he had taken passage, was wending its course up a steep incline George wished to view the back scenery. To this the driver consented, volunteering a warning warn-ing to the "Sneez r" to take care of his legs, or at least to put a few knots in them. Our informant reports that the coach had risen the hill and was rapidly descending upon tho othcr side, when the driver looking back saw naught but a hat, the hat that Georgie used to wear. Alarmed at the evident catastrophe, he stopped his mad career, : wheeled his leaders, and doubled his i wheelers, and with crackiog whip hastened back. After retracing the whole of the ground traveled since tho forlorn hope of Nevada had seated himself in the rear, a broken suspender and a coat sleeve were all traces discovered of the missing one. A large force of men has been called out and every exertion is being made to find the governor; but no report of his recovery is yet at hand. We have broken, asgontlyas possible, this sad intelligence knowing bow heavy a blow it will be to our community. All hope has not yet died, and we sincerely trust we may be able to hear better news of the absent wanderer at least by the end of the first week in November. |
