Tho number of messages carried during the samo time ia 12,444,410, an increase over the previous year of 1,708,422 messages. For the past six yearn the net profits have been 817,116,694 23, of which $10,361,412.01 woro expended in construction con-struction and maiuienauco, and iu thu purchase of new patents, tho most TaJmble ot these t-.iDg that ot the duplex du-plex transmitter by which messages aro sent both ways at once, the capacity of the wire being doubled.
