Show by authority. An Ordinance Regulating Elections. . Bcc. 1. lie it ordained by tho City Council Coun-cil of Salt Lako City, that the city election 1 shall be hold on tho second Monday of February. Feb-ruary. 1ST2, and every two years thereafter, for ono Mayor, five Aldermen, nine Councilors, Coun-cilors, ono Recorder, and Treasurer and one Marshal. Sec- 2. No person ehall bo elected or appointed ap-pointed to any city oliico unless ho is a citizen citi-zen of tho United States, and has been a constant rosident of said city during at least one year next preceding such election or appointment; neither shall any person bo eligible to voto at, any election without they possess tho qualification of voters as prescribed by tho laws of tho Torritory, and unless ho or sho is a citizen of tho t ni-ted ni-ted States, ovor twenty-one years of age, and has boon a constant resident in said city during tho sis months next preceding said election. Sec. 3. No 0 fli c 0 r or soldier of tho United States army, or other person subject to their military authority, shall bo eligible to oilioo, or voto at any municipal olection in thia city, unless his bomo or pi, icq of residence resi-dence was therein at tho tiuio of engaging in such service. Sec. 4. The City Rccordor shall cause a notice of tho time and places, tho number and kind of officers to bo elected. to be posted up in five public places, or advertised in somo novspapor published within said city at least live days previous to the time of holding said elections. Sec. 5. Tho City Council shall appoint ono or morn Judges and Clerks of election at each place of holding elections, who shall, . beforo entering upon their duties, take an oath for tho faithful performance thereof. ' Said Council shall furnish the necessary stn- ' tionery and ballot boxes; and the voting , shall bo by ballot. fee, 15 The place or places of holding said elections shall be determined by tho City Council, and the polls shall bo open to receive re-ceive voles at tho hour of eight o'clock in the mornine, and continue open until six o'clock in the evening. Any person casting an illegal voto ! at any city election, or voting, or attcmpt-. attcmpt-. ing to vote twico at the same election, shall be deemed guilty of a misdemeanor, and for i each otfenso shall bo liablo to a lino not ex- cccding one hundred dollars, and to impri-! impri-! sonmcnt not exceeding six months, or to ' both fine and imprisonment. Sec. 7.
