Show PROPOSED TELEGRAPH LISE TO PIOCIIE. l'iocho wants telegraphic communi 'cation with the rest of the world, and proposes to obtain it. by eounceting with the Deseret line at Beaver. Here is what the Ely Record says on tho . sul ject : A proposition having been made some time since by one of our prominent promin-ent citizens, to the telegraph company owning the lines in Utah, with a view ' to the exteusion of its lines to Fioehe, A. M. Musser is now on a visit to our 1 city to ascertain the depth of the tele-i tele-i graph interest that our public and . business men will take in this much ; needed and laudable enterprise. The 1 propositiou referred to was one to the etlect that the substantial men of our , growing town would willingly subscribe, ; on certain conditions, to lacilitate the completion of a work of this character ' without delay. j Mr. Musser tells us that in view of . the scarcity of polls in close proximity i to the location of the proposed line, from Beaver here, and the present high rates of labor occasioned by the de- j ; velopment of mines, and farmers sow- j ing and plantinc, the line may cost! some $200 or $2o0 per mile. The dis- j tanee between these two points being' about 120 miles, the aggregate cost can ! be easily arrivpd at. j We understand it is proposed to can-! vass for a loan, to be returned in tele-1 graphing when the line is completed ; should the company conclude, on Mr. ! Musser's representation, to build one I to those who may be willing to fur-; ther this grand enterprise. 1 It is to be hoped no ODe who is at all able and interested will be backward in 1 lending their aid to the construction of this line, as we weil know that in the ab-1 sence of such instantaneous facilities of communication we have suffered, and i are still suffering in all our business re-' lations. Such an auxiliary as this will place us within a few moments commu-' uieation with San Francisco, Xew York, j and we may add, Europe. It will ad-' vertise our place and mines and ma-i terially assist in the development of all the rich resources of this hitherto un-; known country. We say then, come i unhesitatingly to the aid of this worthv ' work. " j |
