Show MOVING THE CAPITAL OF UTAH. Some eastern papers arc iiiaulini; iu articles oa the necessity of moving the capital of Utah from Salt Lake City to Corinne. Apart froin the absurdity of the proposition, to those who arc acquainted with the two place?, the atuff published by sonic of the papers concerning it is simply disgusting disgust-ing to those who know the facts. The hundreds of people in this city ai the present time, not holding the Mormon faith, will be surprised to learn that they must be either Mormons or Federal Fed-eral officials, as it is serionsly stated that no "Gentiles'' reside in SaltLake City, except the Federal officials ; and furthermore that the lives of Federal Fed-eral officiate arc not safe in this city. It is difficult to say whether ignorance or base mendacity is most conspicuous in such statements, which only expose the writer to contempt; for their is not a well-informed man or woman iu the east or west to-day, who does not know that both are as false as vile imagination imagina-tion can concoct. Then, again, it is urged that Corinne is a "Gentile town," where there are "no Mormons," and where the Government officials could fiud fit society, which, to those who know Corinne, bespeaks a worse opinion opin-ion of the Government officials than wo hare entertained of any of them, excepting, probably, one or two. But viewed in the abstract, thi3 is a nice proposition ! The government of a Territory composed almost entirely of a people with a certain religious faith, to be removed from its proper position, geographically, influentially and in population, to a mushroom place of no status, nor influence iu the Territory, because no members of that religious faith reside in it ! If repub-iicauism repub-iicauism hadn't become tired of blushing blush-ing at the monstrously base projects ol such people as they to whom the paternity pa-ternity c: this is due, it would burn starlet all over, and sink its head iu lisgtiit aud shame to call them republicans. repub-licans. .. . The whole affair is a real estate j speculation, of the must outrageous ' aud disreputable character, with which an honest man wouid ccuru to be con- neeted. I |
