THE PRESS IX ERROR Under the heading The Herald in Error the Evening Press last night chard this department with inaccuracy inac-curacy in the following language The Ogden Department of the Salt Lake Herald usually reliable has dropped into error this morning in its sermon on Precedents and this error er-ror completely upsets the conclusions of the article Speaking of the Repub lican obstruction in the city council the Herald says When Shinn resigned re-signed the Republicanscast their votes for James Cassin a Republican al though Shinn was a Democrat When L D Shinn resigned Howard Carpen ter a Democrat was elected by the council to fill the vacancy When Councilman Farrell died H C Ward leigh was elected as it was considered proper that a Republican should fill the place of a Republican We repeat just what was said in that 1 article and just what the Press said was said We did not say that a Republican Re-publican was elected but that the Republicans Re-publicans cast asolid vote for one The only reason they failed was because there were not enough Republican votes in the council to elect him A conversation with any of the former for-mer councilmen or an examination of I the city records will convince the Press usually reliable that this time its attack at-tack was unwarranted
