| Show ColdBlooded Mnrilcr NEW YORK Feb 10What appears to have been a coldblooded murder was committed today in the Institution Institu-tion for the Improved Instruction of Deaf Mu te The victim was Professor Max E Glan 68 years of age an instructor in drawing The body was found In the studio of the professor on the fourth floor of the institution There were a number of horrible gashes on the back of the head and near the body le hed near te was found a bloody iron shovel with which the murderer evidently struck down his victim No apparent motive for the crime was discovered When the professors clothing was searched his gold watch and Can were found in tact 6 cents in change a bunch of keys a pipe and a match box being also found in his pockets I was said by Superintendent Green of the institution tution that he did not know the pro fessor had < an enemy in the building and for that matter In the world He said he a a man who kept well to himself and after his business had been transacted at the institute ben transaed at inttte he left and hO but few words with anybody He said the professor had been with ih > the institution for a number of years and that his methods and methos work were satisfactory I the murder was not committed by a person who had free access t the Institute the attachees are puzzled t know how any person could get into the place without being seen There are but two entrances to the place and these axe in the front of the building The Upstairs doors are always locked and at the basement door which is the usual way the building is entered there Is Iding always an attendant and it atedant would have been impossible for a person to have gained an entrance in that way without discovery dis-covery No one in the building was found who had seen any strange rOn r-On enter during the afternoon All the windows were examined and no clue was found The entire absence of motive Is puzzling the police and so a a known they have not a single sin-gle clue on which to begin work |
