| Show Exultation at Boston BOSTON Feb lOT 1500 sporting men who attended the boxing Exhibitions Exhibi-tions at the West Newton street armory arm-ory under the auspiqeSv of the Sat folky Athletic club tonight ware given two surprises in the defeat ol Nick Burley of California oy Charles Strong of New Jersey In the first round and likewise the defeat of Maurice Maur-ice Hagerstrom Newark N J who was disposed of by Eddie Connelly of St John N B in about a minute after the final round opened The ConneMy Hagerstrom was the star feature of the programme The men were matched match-ed for fifteen rounds at 133 pounds Both men started in with a rush Connelly had it all his own way an l knocked Hagerstrom down twice Though Hagerstrom was not counted out Captain Bill Daly the referee stopped the bout and gave the decision to Connelly Patsy Haley of Buffalo was given a decision over Patsy Broderick of Prov idence after twelve lively rounds which found both boys still on their feet Haley clearly outpointed his rival ri-val The defeat of Nick Burley the Californian Cali-fornian by Charley Strong colored of Newark N J when the men were In the ring only two minutes was a great dbappointment as Burley was looked upon as an easy winner H > was careless when the bout opened and Strong got in a left hand swing on the shoulder which floored Burley but h was soon on his feet again Referee Daly would not allow the bout to continue con-tinue and gave the decision to Strong Both men were matched again for another contest before the same club The other preliminary was between Andy King of Butte Mont and Jim mie Kennard of St Paul featherweights feather-weights Kennard won in three rounds |
