Show NONPARTISAN METHODS I S To the Editor of The Herald As coming events cast their shadows before so do the appointments thus S I far made by our nonpartisan mayor I foreshadow the wonderful workings to I I v be expected from our reform administration I I adminis-tration It does not require the gift I p of prophecy to foretell how our city will be managed for the advantage of those few manipulators who instituted the S citizens movement or for their Immediate Imme-diate relatives S One of the declarations loudly expressed ex-pressed by the reform party was this That family and political influence S influ-ence should count as naught No member mem-ber of the committee was to even suggest sug-gest names for the appointive officers i Now comes the announcement of the names of Pratt for chief of police and of Dr Keogh for city health commissioner I commis-sioner The fight concerning the former I form-er has been so much discussed that it Is not my purpose to mention it In this I letter Concerning the latter I wish to say that probably no one is so dense as not to sec the hand of one of the dictators of the citizens or better I of the bankers combine in the appointment ap-pointment No one but a party tool I i eedb tm nP would have selected a man who has been in the city less than two years whohas no one but himself to care for I no ties to the community other than I his intention of making a living out I of it a man who I am told strongly opposed the citizens movement ard as I strongly supported another party We understand that he Is an able man but it was not very evidently on this account that he was chosen but because he happened to be brotherin law of banker McCornick one of the allpowerful committee which elevated ele-vated the mayor to his present position posi-tion There are physicians whom the community com-munity has known favorably for years who should have and would have been considered by a mayor not subject to the dictation of money and of the party manipulators It has the odor of political corruption I and we ask the public to observe that future nominees will invariably be relatives orbosom friends of some member of the bankers committee Yours very truly trulyDEMOCRAT |
