Show I UTAH SHEEP IN PERL I I J Sixty Thousand Head Threatened in Eastern Utah DEEP SNOW ON THE DESERT TEMPEBATUHS tvikRTT DEGREES DE-GREES BELOW ZERO Ten Days More of This Weather Will Kill Half of the Sheep and Twenty Days Would Almost Exterminate the nocks Dying of Cold and Starvation Special to The Herald Thompsons Utah Jan 26On Sunday Sun-day last about eight inches of snow fell here and as far south a the Grand river making a total depth of about 24 inches On Monday night the thermometer ther-mometer fell to 15 below zero and the weather continues to grow colder At 6 oclock this evening the thermometer has reached 1 and i Is very probable that tonight will be a record breaker Of the 60000 head of sheep on the desert between the Green and Grand few will be able to survive the cold many days longer Hheepmen are very uneasy and state that if the weather does not moderate within ten days the loss will be at least SO per cent and that few will survive a twenty day siege like the present cold weather Efforts will he made to get feed to the sheep but owing to the time necessarily neces-sarily consumed in getting feed to this place and transportation from 20 to SO miles through the snow many of the weaker sheep will perish There has been within the last two or three days considerable loss from cold and starvation |
