Show 4 POSTAL SAVINGS BANKS Gary Would Like t Put the System In Operation Washington Jan 26The senate I committee on postoflices and post roads today had under consideration the advisability ad-visability of establishing the scheme of postal savings banks In the United States This discussion was general and I the only conclusion reached was that I Senators Mason and Butler should prepare pre-pare the bill which could be used as abase a-base for future deliberations A communication was read from Postmaster General Gary making suggestions sug-gestions regarding the details of the legislation leg-islation proposed Among other provisions pro-visions urged by him was one giving the largest possible discretion to the postmaster general in putting the new system Into operation Mr Gary stated that In his opinion the tendency Is to make the Interest rate tpo high The downward tendency of Interest rates Is unmistakable he said He thought a rate too low preferable to one too high and suggested 2 per cent as a prudent and reasonable rate He also uggested the Importance of providing pro-viding certain postoffices or subtreas uries as depositories for the postojllce funds because of the impracticability of making repayments from Washington I Washing-ton in case all depositories should be located fn Washington |
