Show a 4J THE STATE GRAND JURY Presents Its Final Report and Is Discharged SIX YEARS FOR KESSLER I FOIL THE VOLBSfTAKY MAXSLATJGH TiER OF SOLDIER XIEBERGALI 5ovemuer Term of Court Opens and Jurors Sworn Jn Supreme Court Opinion City Gets Off En My In the Eddias Dnmnge Snits Suit to Enjoin the Collection of Count School Tax In Salt Lake City The state grand jury which was em paneled about six weeks ago for tde express purpose of examining the affairs af-fairs of the defunct Bank of Salt Lake concluded its labors yesterday and came into Judge Hiles court and presented pre-sented one more indictment against the Bacons and Hollands for receiving deposits for the bank when they knew Jt was insolvent and afeo presented their final report and were dischairged The report is as follows The grand jury for the Third judicial district of the stale of Utah have the honor to submit Ifoe following report The grand jury convened on Sept 29 1896 for the purpose of investigating investigat-ing ibhe causes of the failure of the late Bank of Salt Lake and the criminality if any of the officers of said bank in the management of its affairs alsc any other cases which might properly be brought before this body We examined carefully and diligently into the affairs of the bank and examined ex-amined a large number of witnesses and from the information derived therefrom found and returned into this court 92 indietmertts against the officers offi-cers of said bank We also found three indictments in p various other cases presented to us and returned same into this court and ignored one case 1rrch was presented We visited the county jail the city Jail anti the county infirmary these being the only institutions under our jurisdiction We beg to report that we found the county jail in excellent condition dean well ventilated heated and lighted Ohe culinary department well conducted tile attendants courteous and kind The dty jail we found in a deplor able condution the building old and entirely en-tirely two small for the needs of the city the ventilation light and sanitary arrangements bad the cells crowded the culinary department well conducted con-ducted and the fcod ample in quantity Jnd exceHent in quality In our opinion opin-ion the management exercises care and good judgment under existing conditions condi-tions and endeavor to keep the jail clean comfortable and healthy We found the county infirmary well conducted and in excellent condition the 72 inmates well fed clean comfortable comfort-able and cheerful their clothing beds and bedding warm and clean the food nourishing and the quantity ample We have been in session 19 days and have disposed of all the cases presented pre-sented Ito us Very respectfully submitted sub-mitted F L CUSHING Foreman |
