ment people here are beginning to get wfcat consolation they can out o Mc Kinleys election Utah has s many rOUTS that no change of adminis tration could seriously hurt he < and Mercur while hoping to share the benefits bene-fits of bimetallism in common with the ret of the country is still able to gain an impetus from the adverse verdict of the American people While it is discouraging t the silver miner the 0 i < mine inyeeors are > l the more anxious anx-ious to invest in promising gold min sand s-and as Mercur has a god supply of these a great del of attenUon i b iwr paiJ to this cvanJde camp Several heavy deals are now being oonoderel win pcuspec ot consider t le money being invested in Cams here and active work is looked for In the near future Already some property prop-erty has changed contract for another other 1000 feet has been auken and he will continue t sink with the churn drill until that depth has been reached I is expected that Captain Black will b here in a few days to take formal possession and direct the labors So far the indicaitfons are encouraging and confidence in the outcome is growIng 1i is expected that within the next 10 days the mill at the Northern Light will be s far advanced that the workmen work-men will be under cover So far the material ha been arriving too slow to keep all the workmen busy but ext teams have been engaged to freight from Mercur to Lion hill and it is I hoped that there will be no further delay The machinery will begin to I arrive this week and iit is almost impossible work im-possible for the weather to deay the The 40horse power engine at the east shaft of the Golden Gate is being replaced by a new 60iiorse power p5ant This shaft is the one through wCiidh the ore will be hoisted to the mill 1t is the intention to put a cage in the shaft and it is being fitted up for this purpose The force cf miners has been increased during the past few days and whether a mill will be budlt tlhls fall or not things are livening up generally gen-erally at that famous property Manager Cory of the Gladstone has obtained possession of the Brooklyn group of seven claims adjoining the Gladstone This makes 12 cams now under the control of the Gladstone company Development work on the Brooklyn will be commenced about the 15th insL I is expected that a 60horse power steam hoist wH be in place at the Gladstone in a few days and tlbe work of sinking tIe main shaft will b resumed re-sumed This shaft is now 150 feet deep and is said ito be one of the best in Cap Floyd district The shaft will be sunk 0 the depth of 600 feet unless > the ore body i encountered at a lessjr I depth and a the company have plenty cf money behind them the work of development de-velopment will be pushed as rapidly a possible In one of tine shafts o the property a 30foot vein of lowgrade ore was found last soring which yielded as high a 55 in gold per ton s that there is every reason to believe the future will find the Gladstone among the rich mines of Mercur Work on the Geyser mill addition is progressing nicely and will be in operation op-eration before a great while Another strike was made in the workings of this mine a few days ag The ore has a 20foot face and assays 1 I is believed be-lieved that it is part of the same vein discovered in another portion of the workings a short time since At the Sacramento everything is working nicely A heavy shipment of cyanides was made this week and anew a-new body of or has been brought t light I yields a value of 20 per ton but the extent of the vein has not yet been ascertained Work has been resumed on the Go len Seals while < the Wonder and Hecla still continue 0 improve The shaft at the Long Birds has reached a depth of 170 feet and the work of sinking is being crowded along as rapidly as possible The Marion refinery has demonstrated demon-strated t its own satisfaction that ifc can handle the cyanides as successfully a any of the eastern concerns and it now proposes to satisfy the rest of the pose te interested parties in Mercur The owners own-ers have made propositions to the various vari-ous companies which will no doubt prove acceptable and will probably result re-sult in the cyanides being treated at home The recent strike in the western foothills plays hob with ancUier tneory one that said no ore would be found in that locality There are qutte a number of claims in that part of the district and the news cf the Omahas good luck will induce claim holders to dO more work The vein in the Omaha loe wol ven Is 18 feet tlhlcK ana assays 7 per Ion one small streak giving a value of 147 The La CigaJe has struck the TI Cige ias strct same 5re a that found in the Omaha but the values are net s high Should sufficient ore be discovered to justify the erection of mills in the western foothills water will be much easier obtained the than at Mercur a it is but a mile and a hal from Ophdr creek and will not be necessary to pump The HIllside still keeps driving ahead cheered by the reports of strikes i I in its vicinity Without doubt the company com-pany will b successful hi its search I before long j I The BullionBeck Dividend is a little below what the doctor expected the ore to go but he attributes th to the fact that but little care was taken n the sorting of the ore The streak from which the small shoment v5a taken is
