Show y i M c A ENTERTAIN i Large Reception and Entertainment Given By the Members IT WAS A PLEASING NEW YEARS EVENT Five Hundred Guests Spent the Afternoon Af-ternoon and Evening With the Hospitable Christians Music and Songs and Gymnastic Exhibitions the Attractions The hbspitable doors of the Y M C A were open all day yesterday and with song and music and good fellowship fellow-ship the members and their friends celebrated the birth of the new year About 500 guests were entertained during the day President Silver Sec retaiy Axton and members of the association as-sociation board proved to be amiable hosts and everyone from the hilarious small boy to the aged friend of the as sedation breathed the air of sociability sociabil-ity that reigned there and enjoyed himself him-self The association rooms were decorated decorat-ed in a festal way and the abundant evergreens that draped the lOurus made J the place look like a section Of a Lebanon Leb-anon forest There were many festoons fes-toons also with carnations and roses and long lines of bunting hung in the reception room The afternoon was spent in a general gen-eral reception to all friends of the association This was informal and lasted from 3 until 5 oclock While delectable refreshments were being served an orchestra led by Carl Zehn ter made the place resonant with music Later in the afternoon Augustus of the gymnasium department gathered some sinewy juniors around him and a clever exhibition in uptodate drilling and athletics was given The enjoyment reached its height in I the evening Many hundred guests crowded the apartments while an informal in-formal reception was being given by the officers and members A programme mostly musical ended the days entertainment enter-tainment In the absence of Miss Clayton Clay-ton a piano solo was rendered by Professor Pro-fessor Cook whose performance was received with applause President E V Silver then made a brief address in which he commented upon the good work which had been performed by the association during the year and referred re-ferred to the harmony which prevailed between Secretary Axton and the other officers The other numbers were a recitation by Mrs John Reed a solo by Mrs K Bridewell Anderson and a recitation by Miss Violet Craig At the conclusion of this part of the entertainment the guests were invited to the gymnasium where the seniors I gave a pleasing exhibition |
