Show FROM TTATSTNA STANDPOINT Regard the Caucus Result As Favorable Favor-able t Their Candidate Columbus 0 Jan 1Late tonight Senator Hamia and his associates at their headquarters gave out the following follow-ing statement regarding the result of the caucuses tonight I The resut of the caucuses tonight assures the support of Senator Hanna and that the intrigue of disloyal Republicans Re-Publicans with the Allen O MyersJohn McLean Democracy for the election of a frte silver man to the senate will not be succssful Mr Kurtz and his a sociates had claimed that the Republicans Repub-licans could not muster more than 35 votes in tonights house caucus instead in-stead of that 52 were present and at least two others would have attended but for illness They boasted constantly constant-ly that they would keep at least 27 Republicans Re-publicans out of the house caucus instead in-stead of that but onethird of that number remained away In the senate caucus every Republican was present with the exception of Burke of Cleveland Cleve-land Of the ten absentees two were detained by illness one of them sending send-ing word that he would support the nrminees of the party while of the other eight i is known that some will vote for Senator Hanna Tonights results re-sults encourage the friends of Senator Hanna and the fight will go on to the finish They feel that sentiment of the I Republicans of the state and county is thoroughly aroused against this plot to overthrow the will of the people and obtain control of congress by the election I elec-tion of a free silver senator with Republican Re-publican votes and it is confidently believed be-lieved that this public sentiment will be so felt by men who hold the power to determine this question that they will not refuse to vote wtih the party which elected them The absentees at the house caucus were M S Bramley of Cleveland con actor John E Griffith of Marysvale attorney James Joyce of Cambridge John P Jones of North Lawrence James Manuel of Centerville contractor con-tractor Harry C Mason of Cleveland attorney J C Otis of Cincinnati physician phy-sician and druggist William A Scott jr of Canton insurance and real estate es-tate D O Rutan of Carrollton farmer and wool grower wa absent on account count of illness and made no announcement nouncement of his intentions a to his vote and A M Griffith of Sabine detained by illness sent word that he would support the Republican nominee The absent senator was Vernon H Burke of Cleveland attorney At the Republican senate caucus there were two absenteesSenator Burke of Cleveland and Senator Voight of Cincinnati the latter being the only fusionist in that body Voight has been counted among the supporters of Senator Sena-tor Hanna The Republicans nominated nominat-ed J Park Alexander for president proem pro-em of the senate A C fZaine for chief lerk and R F Hayward for sergeant atarms I Caine and Hayward are renominated for their old places Although on the Hanna ticket Hayward is from Springfield Spring-field he is a neighbor of Governor Bushnell End has been his close friend |
